Conclusion and Reflection
This project began with a simple observation: transcripts are functional but often hard to navigate, especially when they’re dense with jargon and abbreviations. Through research methods like affinity diagramming, persona creation, and user journey mapping, we identified the biggest pain points: information overload, loss of flow during lookups, and designs that felt more like 2D screens than spatial experiences.
Our ideation phase translated these insights into sketches, wireframes, and ultimately a modular architecture. We built a working prototype that streamed speech to text, tokenized words and phrases, and used ChatGPT as an explainer service for instant, contextual definitions. The design went through multiple iterations: from a large “board-like” transcript window to the final version where the transcript behaves like a lightweight card and definition cards can be moved, pinned, or closed independently.
Furthermore, User testing confirmed the value of these changes: the final design reduced clutter, improved focus, and felt more natural to VisionOS’s spatial environment. Engineering decisions such as modularizing services, caching definitions, and supporting multi-word expressions made the system robust and extensible.
Looking Forward
Debrieviate can expand by offering richer educational definitions with examples and diagrams, adding multilingual translation for inclusivity, supporting domain-specific jargon glossaries across fields, and enabling collaborative sharing of annotations and glossaries in shared environments.
